Korean Fried Chicken Burger (Insanely good!)

February 6, 2024

Ever felt the craving for a tasty Korean Fried Chicken Burger but didn’t want to break the bank? That’s me!

Instead of paying like $11 for just the burger, I decided to try making it at home.

Let’s create a delicious Korean Fried Chicken Burger without the hefty price tag.

Background and Origins:

You might have heard of Korean Fried Chicken’s global fame.

The secret? Crispy outside, tender inside. This homemade twist sticks to this tradition, blending the flavors of gochujang paste, honey, and soy sauce.

It’s the gochujang that gives it that unmistakable Korean kick, all hugged by soft brioche buns.

Flavors, Textures, and Overall Taste Profile:

Imagine biting into crispy chicken with a mix of sweet, spicy gochujang sauce, and creamy mayo.
Add the cool crunch of lettuce and the rich cheddar – it’s a party in your mouth!

Each bite is a mix of flavors and textures that feels like a mini celebration.

Tips and Techniques:

  1. Marinating Magic: Let the chicken soak up the tasty mix of gochujang, honey, soy sauce, and mirin. It not only tastes great but also makes the chicken super tender.
  2. Egg Power: Crack an egg into the marinating mix to help the flour stick better. This makes the chicken extra crispy – the best part!
  3. Double Coating for Extra Crunch: Want an even crunchier chicken? Dip it in the flour mix twice. It’s like giving your burger an extra crispy hug.
  4. Burger Building 101: Building your burger is fun! Spread the gochujang-mayo sauce, add crispy lettuce, and top it with cheddar. Every layer makes your burger awesome.

Here’s what I used for this recipe:

  • 3 tbsp Gochujang Paste
  • 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Mirin

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine Gochujang paste, honey, soy sauce, mirin, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
Mix well to create a flavorful marinade.
  • Cut the chicken breasts into burger-sized pieces.
Lightly season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Whisk one egg in a separate bowl.
Dip each piece of chicken into the egg, ensuring it is well-coated.
Coat each piece in the marinade, ensuring even coverage.
Let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes, or for more flavor, refrigerate for a few hours.
  • In a separate bowl, combine cornflour, all-purpose flour, and garlic powder.
  • Take each marinated chicken piece and coat it thoroughly in the flour mixture.
    Shake off any excess flour.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
Fry the coated chicken until golden brown and cooked through, approximately 5 minutes per side.
Place the cooked chicken on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.

Spread the Gochujang-mayo sauce on both sides of the buns.
  • Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun.
Add a piece of fried chicken on top of the lettuce.
Lay two slices of cheddar on each chicken piece.
Top with the other half of the bun.
  • Repeat the process for each burger.
Serve the Korean Fried Chicken Burgers with your favorite sides.
