Honey Garlic Potatoes: Easy and Flavorful

January 25, 2024

These Honey Garlic Soy Potatoes are a flavor-packed dish that combines the sweetness of honey, the savory richness of garlic, and the umami goodness of soy sauce.

It’s a versatile and satisfying side dish that pairs perfectly with any main course or can stand alone as a tasty snack.

The sweet and savory glaze coats each potato, creating a caramelized exterior with a tender and fluffy interior. The combination of honey, garlic, and soy sauce infuses the potatoes with layers of delicious flavor, making every bite irresistible.

Plus, the addition of green onions and sesame seeds adds a fresh and crunchy element to the dish, elevating its taste and texture.

Nutritional Attributes:

Potatoes are a good source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, potassium, and vitamin B6. They also provide fiber, which aids in digestion and helps keep you feeling full.

Additionally, garlic is known for its antibacterial and antiviral properties, while honey offers natural sweetness and antioxidants.

Together, these ingredients contribute to a dish that not only tastes great but also provides nutritional benefits.

Preparation Time:

Whether using leftover cooked potatoes or starting from scratch, this recipe is simple and straightforward.

The potatoes can be boiled ahead of time and cooled, or you can use freshly boiled potatoes for a quicker option. I’m using leftover potatoes that have been sitting in the fridge for days in this recipe.

The glaze comes together easily with just three ingredients, and the potatoes cook quickly in a hot pan, making this dish perfect for busy weeknights or lazy weekends.

Ingredients & Alternatives:

  • Potatoes: Use either leftover cooked potatoes or freshly boiled potatoes that have been cooled to room temperature. Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes work well for this recipe.
  • Honey: Provides sweetness and caramelization to the glaze. Maple syrup or agave nectar can be used as alternatives for a vegan option.
  • Garlic: Adds aromatic flavor to the glaze. Freshly minced garlic is recommended for the best taste, but garlic powder can be substituted if needed.
  • Light Soy Sauce: Adds depth of flavor and umami richness to the glaze.
  • Green Onions: Finely chopped green onions are sprinkled over the finished dish for a pop of color and freshness. Cilantro or parsley can be used as substitutes.
  • Vegetable Oil: Used for frying the potatoes and creating a crispy exterior.
  • Sesame Seeds: Optional garnish for additional texture and nuttiness. Toasted sesame seeds are recommended for enhanced flavor.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Make sure the potatoes are thoroughly dried before frying to achieve a crispy crust.
  2. To save time, use a mandoline slicer to thinly slice the garlic for faster mincing.
  3. Customize the dish by adding your favorite herbs or spices to the glaze, such as ginger or chili flakes.
  4. Serve the Honey Garlic Soy Potatoes as a side dish with grilled chicken, steak, or enjoy them on their own as a tasty snack or appetizer.

I’m using leftover potatoes for this recipe, but I’ll provide instructions for both starting from scratch and using leftovers!
